It is certainly *one* of the concepts. :-)

My post was intended to imply that a very large percentage of developers don't
care about portability. This can mean that they are developing for a fixed
target platform, or all the servers that they target supports their lack of
portability, or they are poor developers.

Many, many people can develop EJB's and never run up against a portability
problem with file I/O, or network I/O, or writing to Static member variables.
These are things that some people do when their design calls for it, or when the
"portable" alternative is too clunky for their particular situation. This
activity is not spec compliant and should be discouraged, but there are times
when it may be warranted.
