January 16, 2001 -- Billings, Montana -- Sims Computing today announced
the release of Flux, the Enterprise Job Scheduler, version 2.0. Flux 2.0
presents the developer with a long list of powerful new features,
including queuing, scalability, holiday calendars, and audit trails. In
addition, Flux 2.0 now supports Sybase Enterprise Application Server
(EAServer) and the Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) database.

Flux is a Java software component that performs sophisticated job
scheduling and job queuing for Java [TM] and Java 2 Enterprise Edition
[TM] (J2EE) applications. Job scheduling is concerned with executing the
correct task, on the correct day, and at the correct time. When deployed
as a server-side component, Flux naturally integrates with J2EE
applications. Just months after its September 2000 debut, Flux supplies
scheduling solutions for companies within the financial, insurance, B2B
software solutions, customer relationship management (CRM), and global
healthcare industries throughout three continents.

"The Flux engineering and support team has worked closely with the Flux
community," said David Sims, President of Sims Computing. "From those
experiences, the Flux team was able to identify new features that are
crucial to both the smallest and largest enterprise applications. As a
result, Flux 2.0 satisfies many of the demands of the growing Flux user
base."

INTEGRATION
Optionally, Flux integrates tightly with J2EE applications, including
Enterprise JavaBeans and JMS messages. Flux is application server and
database independent. Flux has been successfully tested against Sybase
EAServer and the Sybase ASE database. It has also been tested against
BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Orion, and Allaire JRun Application Server
in addition to Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft, and Hypersonic SQL databases.

FEATURES
The following features are new to Flux 2.0:

Job Queuing - Any number of jobs can be added to any number of queues on
a first-come, first-serve basis or on a priority basis.

Scalability - Flux can accommodate hundreds of thousands of jobs. Each
job is fired at the appropriate time.

Holiday and Business Calendar support - Schedules can be created that
are sensitive to local holidays and other days that need to be treated
specially.

Interruptions - Running jobs can be interrupted.

Levels of Concurrency - The level of concurrency can be set to allow
conservation of system resources. For example, a concurrency level of 1
allows at most 1 job to fire at any time while a concurrency level of 50
permits up to 50 jobs to fire at once.

Pause and Resume - Jobs can be paused and later resumed.

Audit Trail and Reporting - Signifigant actions taken by Flux are logged
into an audit trail. The audit trail can be a relational database, a
Java listener, or both. The audit trail can be queried to generate
reports.

These new features join the solid stable of job scheduling features
already present in Flux 1.1 such as Cron-style and Relative Time
Expressions, one-shot job scheduling, recurring job scheduling,
persistence, J2EE and java integration, a small footprint, and standards
compliance.
