EJB 2.0 allows bean provider to write ejbSelect methods in the bean.
These methods can be used for your requirement.

Subject: lookup dependent object by primary key
Hi,
Is there a way lookup a dependent object using its
primary key in order to update it.
My case has a deep tree of dependent objects under an
entity bean and I'd like to be able to lookup a
dependent object directly.
Thanks,
Doron
