Hi,
This is Richard Monson-Haefel author of O'Reilly's books on Enterprise
JavaBeans and the Java Message Service. I have been subscribing to this
list since about August 1998 and have seen just about every kind of post
imaginable, but lately I've been amazed.
I've noticed a lot of postings complaining about the quality of the
EJB-INTEREST mailing list recently. Personally, I think its gone done
hill.
I'm offering to become a moderator of the EJB-INTEREST mailing list for
a while. If enough people sign up -- AND its not too demanding -- I'll
be happy to moderate a sibling list which filters out vendor specific
questions, spam, and rude, racist and generally unprofessional comments.
The moderated mailing list will work in tandem with the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] so that posts to Sun's list will be filtered
and delivered to subscribers of the moderated list. You can post to the
moderated list only, or to EJB-INTEREST mailing list, in which case your
post goes to both the general list and the moderated list.
Here's how it would work:
1. All posts to [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be candidates for the
moderated list.
2. If an [EMAIL PROTECTED] post is not a vendor specific
question it will also be posted to the moderated list. However, posts
that talk about specific features of the product will be allowed if it’s
relevant to a thread of discussion.
3. If an [EMAIL PROTECTED] post is NOT rude, racist, or
offensive it will be posted to the moderated list.
4. Spam will not be posted to the moderated list.
5. As moderator I will choose which posts qualify for the moderated list
and which don't at my own discretion.
6. No explanation will be given for posts that are filtered out of the
moderated list. (I don't have time to debate every moderator decision).
7. Since this is a manual process the moderated list will be slower then
the [EMAIL PROTECTED] and there will be a time lag.
8. I will not be moderating the [EMAIL PROTECTED] directly --
the moderated list will be separate from [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
I'll only be passing qualified posts from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
the moderated list.
Are people interested in this?
The one problem is I don't know what list service would be best. My ISP
provides a majordomo list service that I can use, but I’m not sure its
up to the task.
I would be happy to use anything that has a web based administration so
that others can cover for me when I'm away and I can continue moderation
while traveling. The simpler the better because I don't have time to
administer something complicated.
Thanks,
Richard
