Even if you use a Stateful Session Bean to store session values, you'll have
to keep the reference to this EJBObject somewhere; Session beans don't have
a primary key or such, so you'd have to
<shooting-from-the-hip>
        get a handle to your SFSB (EJBObject.getHandle())
        serialize the handle
        send it round the wire
</shooting-from-the-hip>
which obviously isn't very neat.

HTTP session is best managed by your web server. If you don't have
HttpSession capabilities, you'll have to perform a lot of ugly hacks to
provide any of this functionality.
