I think that a well engineering CMP Persistence Manager will do pretty well
in terms of general purpose performance, however there are containers which
don't really have strong CMP implementations so there is a need to
understand the strengths of your container.

Also as you suggest, CMP doesn't handle coarse grain entity beans and you
can get this yourself via BMP.

I am hoping the EJB 2.0 version of CMP will cover a lot of this ground and
make it much more usable.
