This is to announce that the expiry of the RMI Proxy Release Candidate 2
will be extended to 31 July 2001. Existing beta testers and evaluators are
encouraged to download an updated copy (please not before Monday 9am!)

Our retailing plans are in place and we will start retailing on 1 August.
The retail version will be protocol-incompatible with all prior versions,
which won't run after 31 July anyway. (The protocol incompatibility is
required to resolve a final security issue -- sorry!)

Testing of the Jini Proxy is proceeding well. We should have a beta
candidate out within a two or three weeks. We will also be making some
freeware available at the same time, including an RMI/UDP transport.
RMI/IIOP support and other goodies are planned to follow in short order.
Acknowledgements and thanks to Sun Microsystems Australia (Melbourne) for
the generous loan of testing facilities.
