If you want to keep 100% portable, I cannot think of any solution. When it
comes to migrating your application from EJB 1.1 to 2.0, a simple change
will not be that useful. The Local Interfaces in the new spec can offer you
significant performance improvements and it requires you to rewrite a
considerable number of lines.
When you use CMP, it is almost impossible not to create some kind of
dependency on your application server. But if you need to access 3 or 4 EJBs
to get the information, as you said, I think the Value Object and the Data
Access Object patterns would be more appropriate.

Subject: How about EJB 1.1
Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2001 14:43:30 +0530
Hi all,
We are currenlty using Websphere Application Server 4.0 and DB2 7.2
and VAJ 4.0. We have to stick to EJB 1.1 since IBM products dont support EJB
2.0( ok they say few features are supported but we want EJB QL ). We have a
lot of relationships between tables. The tables are normalised. We dont want
to change the db desing bcos of EJB....( not to denormalize ). To get a list
of data, we need to combine 3 or 4 tables to get the relevant data. We have
a short development time. We have decided to use only CMP Entity Beans.I can
understand EJB 2.0 QL solves most of the Container Management Relationship
Issues.Any problems u have still?? But we cant go for it since there is no
support from IBM particularly for EJB QL
The requirements are
* Need to make the code portable to different application server
and
database
* Smooth Transition from EJB 1.1 to EJB 2.0 in the near future when
IBM supports it without much rework in the code
Now the issues are
* How to access the data where most of the times we need to combine
3 or 4 tables when i cant afford to use IBM specifc code. How to go for
relationships between EJBs
How to go about doing this task
Please give ur suggestions at the
earliest........................................
Thanks and Regards,
Swaminathan K.N.
