You are right.But Most of the companies releases the free version (with
limited features) For eg jbuilder personal etc.
What I was looking was the following features
1. Light and fast for editing java files
2. Code insight/hints and member insight features which reduces your typing
a lot. when you press special char like dot(I find Idea a good in this
regard)
3. Individual compilation etc
I dont need any support for ejb, webservices etc.....
So I thought they may have some older versions free to use.

It's a commercial piece of software, and worth the US$400 they charge for
it (IMHO, and considering that it and MVCSoft's engine are the ONLY
commercial/closed software I use...)
I believe you can keep getting new keys and stay in the "Early Access
Program", this way, you kind of pay for it by being a bug tester for them.
