Most of you are doubtless familiar with Jini/JavaSpaces technology. Even if you are not you may have sometimes wondered if there are technologies which can improve J2EE in terms of reducing complexity and increasing flexibility.
I am the moderator of a UserGroup specialising in Jini/JavaSpaces
technology which you can find @
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jini_javaspaces/ .
Jini/JavaSpaces remain something of a technology niche, in part because
of Sun's reluctance to confuse the Java community by offering multiple
approaches to distributed systems development (ie, J2EE vs. Jini). My
hope with this group is to bring together everyone who is using this
great technology, to provide an open forum where opinions can be
exchanged and, I hope, to uncover the fact that Jini and JavaSpaces is
actually being used far more widely than is currently thought.
The idea is not just to set J/JS technology in opposition to J2EE, Web
Services or any other particular technology, but rather to draw
constructive comparisons. The principle of “co-opetition” means that
apparently competing technologies need to co-operate and interoperate if
applications and systems are going to be successfully integrated.
So may I hereby invite you to come, join and contribute to our
discussion forum so that we may all benefit!
keep well,
Gervas Douglas
