Look at the scriptlets in ActiveMQ.

http://activemq.codehaus.org/Streamlets

It uses a REST service and XML messages, meaning that
if you choose to, you can dispense with the client
library, compose XML messages and post them to the
broker, all without leaving the comfort of the J2SE
core library.
