What about the "file" plugin of ALSA? Supposedly, it would allow you
to record what you hear, then you can record with "arecord" your voice
in an other file, provided you are using the dmix plugin.

There is an example here

http://linuxgazette.net/128/lg_tips.html#2-cent-tips.4

In alsa.conf there is another pcm devide called pcm.tee which looks to
be exactly what it is needed, but i don't really know how to use it.

I've seen that alsa 1.0.11 has a bug, affecting Ekiga. What exactly is
affected by this problem?
I ask it, because it is not too easy to change the alsa library (like
suggested) in a distribution like Fedora where there are plenty of
dependencies around. Maybe with the upcoming 2.6.18 (and alsa 1.0.12
rc something) the problem will be solved with new RPMs.

ciao
