I have some similar problems. I have found that on my system, if I happen to have PulseAudio running and try starting Ekiga, I have no sound uptill I kill PA. Also my switches will not move, jump back, until i call 500 for a test. Then they work fine. Also I have noticed that when I and start Ekiga and it does not come up and appears, from looking at the terminal, that it has not come up, BUT if I look at the process, I find it is showing a process, but no GUI.
