I remember that when I used sawfish, the same problem appeared to me:
pushing buttons dos not start browser.
The solution would be that in the gtkonly version (does not exist in
etch, only in testing, sorry) these links work without relying on gnome.
The simplest solution is to show the Web address in the window, and
the user can make copy-paste in the browser. For information:
