Hi Yannick
Fedora core 11 in my case - using the Ekiga that came with it.
As a matter of interest Fedoras bug tracking system is full of
complaints that Ekiga doesn't work - all marked No Fix. I don't know who
packages Ekiga for Fedora but perhaps you should get in touch with him.
Lots of the bug reports say Ekiga hasn't worked since 2.x in about FC 6
or 8.
Currently I have an ALSA error that I have tried to fix but I have
managed to get no audio output in Ekiga and a feedback screech if I
unplug the head set. I hope that undoing all I did will get it back to
half working again.
(To 'break' it I opened alsamixer and set up the sound card - I turned
the +20db on for the mic - I think that pulse doesn't like it when you
do that.)
I have pulseaudio installed and running.
Fedora Core 11
Ekiga 3.2.6
I have wireshark installed.
I can send d4 or wireshark reports - I'm not good at compiling or
patching. I can install .rpm files locally or from a repository. It is a
shame that none of Ekiga developers use a RedHat Linux because it is
quite different from Debian versions.
I don't think this is a specific Ekiga problem - more of a packaging
issue with Fedora.
Hope I can help to fix the problem
David

Hi Bob - I just added myself to the audio and video groups - and Now I

The echo test still doesn't work though.
I think the voice group must be an Ubuntu thing I'm not sure which of
the two made the difference as I don't want to mess with it now it's
half working!

Ok, I added myself to the audio group and that made a difference. It
rung through to my cell phone but immediately switched to the voice
mail function. However the announcement came through loud and very
clear! Progress!
I was looking for a "voice" group earlier and there was none.
There's probably a "video" group too but I don't have a working web
cam connected and can't afford to waste bandwidth streaming video. I
only get 17 gigs down, 5 gigs up, per 30 day period on this
satellite isp, and I have other users on my LAN. I am running at 45%
usage now. We live in a rural area and there's no cable or DSL
available.
Hi,
I did a test using a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.10 (with virtualbox)
and my own packages ( https://launchpad.net/~sevmek/+archive/ppa ).
The results are:
I can register to ekiga.NET and place a call to [email protected] with audio
and video.
The user is *not* part of any groups like audio/video/voice. Thus, AFAIK
this issue is not relevent using a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 installation.
Still, in my own setup (ubuntu 9.10, but upgraded from version to
version since a long time now) my user is part of the groups audio and
video. I do not remember if I did this and why...
Thus, maybe this issue is maybe the result of an old behavior in Ubuntu
(and maybe Debian).
Could you please tell us what are the distros you are using and when you
installed it (using which version)?
Best regards,
Yannick
