Im stuck with the same problem. I tried adding $ES_HOME/plugins/sheild/ to 
my CLASSPATH as well, but still no go.
i also set the path to the plugins directory in my elasticsearch.yml file 
like so :
path.plugins: /usr/local/elasticsearch/plugins/

Help!
