Not unless you are creating a *lot* of indies on that node, remember that a shard is a lucene instance and take up a certain amount of resources.
Generally it's a good idea to create multiple shards if you expect to add more nodes, that way it's easier to spread the data across the new nodes without having to reindex. But for dev purposes on a single node, having a single shard index is fine.
