Thanks! Ralf:

Appreciate your response; thanks for coming up to the
plate!

Just to make sure I have this correct: HEINRICH - the
father's surname - is the family's original surname?

And all other surnames are "prenames"?

The surnames - KURT, MARIE, and NEUFELDT - (originally
surnames) are now/were used as forenames?

So, should I be safe in using HEINRICH as a surname
for Max NEUFELDT when searching for him?

I would really like to know if name patterns out of
Elbing is tradition or am I seeing errors made by LDS
transcribers?
....

I have much to read regarding the civil records of
Elbing <www.elblag.ap.gov.pl.>

Thank you kindly.
....

HelloManaia,
the civil records of Elbing from 1874 to 1906 are kept
inthe Marienburg archive in poland. Every year they
get another year ofrecords from the town elblag when
they reach the age of 100 years.

www.elblag.ap.gov.pl

There you can order copies of theentries. They can
search for you, but you have to pay the time they
needfor it.

I think the names are a second prename.

regards
ralf.

Hello:

 Per www.familysearch.org:

 Albert Neufeldt HEINRICH(father)
 b.1848Elbing, , , Germany
 d.1930 Meran, Bolzano, Italy

 MaxNEUFELDT(son)
 b.1886 Elbing, , , Germany
 d.1966Jahannesburg(sic), , , South Africa
 ....

I am unable to find info for Max NEUFELDT other than
a
 birth and deathdata.

Max is one of ten children born to
 Adolph& Louise [Bohne MARIE] HEINRICH.

Another son bornAlbert Neufeldt KURT(1883) and a
 daughter born Anna NeufeldtMARIE(1875).
 ....

I have yet to research the surnamesKURT and MARIE,
but was wondering about name patterns for theGermany
 area.

Is patronymic naming also fluent inGermany?

If not, then why the difference in surnamesbetween
the father and three of his ten children?
 ....

The info I have regarding Max NEUFELDT is based on
"oral history"/Family folk-lore by NEUFELDT descent.

"Is there anyone out there who can help me with the
'missing years' of my
 gg-uncle Max NEUFELDT (1886 -1966). In April1908 he
 left Germany to work
for the 'Deutsche Handels undPlantagen Gesellschaft'
 in Samoa. In August
1920 hereturned, married in Hamburg, Germany, and
 rised a family. He
never liked to talk about his time overseas, but
 rumors say hewas
married there and had children. It seems as if he
 becamea soldier in WW1
and spent his last years in Samoa in an
internation(sic) camp, but that again
 are rumors."
 ....

Yes, I will be asking South Africa for an obit.

 Thanks! everyone for your thoughts.

 Regards,
 --Manaia
