Hi Mark
I would like to use your professional
Genealogical Service to trace my
Wife’s Father’s family. My father in law Albert Ifflander was
born in Elbing
13 Apr 1903.
Albert’s father
was Joseph Ifflander. Family lore says Joseph was raised Roman Catholic, but
converted to Lutheran when he married. Joseph was a
Machinist by trade. He was move to northern Germany
after WWII.
We do not know Albert’s mother true first
name. She was know to us as
Anna ? & Christine?
Gehrmann. She as Lutheran, as was the Joseph
Ifflander family after their marriage.
Albert’s siblings
were Ernst, Franz, Paul & Erngard. To the best of
my knowledge they all lived in Elbing until the end of WWII.
Albert immigrated
from Elbing to North Tonawanda, NY
via France and
England
in October 1923. When he arrived he lived with his mother’s first
or second cousin or Great Aunt. Her name was Anna Marie
Gehrmann. She
was married to Gottfried Parschke. They were Lutheran.
American records
that Anna Marie Gehrmann Parschke was born in Germany on March 6, 1843.
She died in North Tonawanda in
1925. Her parents are listed as Michael Germann and Dorothy Peterman
I also would like
some advice on visiting Elbing (Elbag). We will be in
Prague in
September and plan to travel to Rossow ( 30 miles south of
Berlin
) to visit the f my German ancesters home town. We are
thinking about taking a train from Berlin
to Elbag. We speak very little German an no Polish, so seeking advise.
I have found the
Ifflander name in many of the address books you have
posted. Thank you for all of your efforts.

As of yesterday I had identified three Elbing texts (addressbooks) not
currently available on ManyRoads (or anywhere else that I could find on the
web); they are from 1896,1902,1934 . Obviously any electronic version of the
texts will work. In my opinion free documents are better than those for fee.
The three I found were about 18 euros each (or 54 euros total). I also don't
know if there might not be additional missing texts.
Ultimately I'd love to make the collection available to a public and
perpetual site. Like you, I do genealogy and am aware I'll expire sometime!
After that, my web access will be limited. ;^)

How much do you need? You already have all the books I had scanned,
filmed and converted to digital format. That cost me a bunch but, like you, I
think it is very important to make these historical works available to the
public in a centralized place. It's all we have left of these people. If a
handful of people throw 10 or 20 Euros into the pot, it should be an easy task.

Gestern habe ich drei neue Adressbuecher gefunden, den 1934, 1902 und
1896, aber die kosten fast 18 Euro der Stueck. Hat jemand Intresse mit etwas
Spende mir um diese Projekt zu helfen? Oder hat jemand diese Buecher frueher
gekauft auf CD oder so etwas aehnliches.. . die ich 'kopieren kann'?

I am trying to gather all available Elbing (Prussia) area addressbooks
on ManyRoads for everyone to read and access.
Yesterday I found three issues available on CD (1934, 1902, 1896) that
I do not have currently. They cost about 18 Euros each. Is anyone interested in
helping me fund the purchase of these? Or better yet does anyone have
electronic versions of these that I can copy and make available on ManyRoads
for all to share?
