You won't find "canyonlands" in any Makefile. The rule is in
arch/powerpc/boot/Makefile (2.6.36):

$(obj)/%.dtb: $(dtstree)/%.dts
        $(DTC) -O dtb -o $(obj)/$*.dtb -b 0 $(DTS_FLAGS) $(dtstree)/$*.dts

So you should type this command (with ARCH & CROSS_COMPILE set correctly):

$ make canyonlands.dtb

This will generate this file in the arch/powerpc/boot directory.

Cheers,
Stefan
