Dear Axel Beierlein, In message <[email protected]> you wrote: > > after reading the Documents of Yoctoproject and looking into the sources > of eldk.5.2.1 and Yocto i want to know what benefit it is for a > developer to use the eldk instead of yocto!
The very short summary is that Yocto focuses on a few spcific hardware configurations; for example, ARM support uses the Beagleboard as reference, so all testing will be done with an ARMv7a specific set of options only. If you need a configuration for a slightly different architecture - say, ARMv6 - enter an untested area, and may easily face more or less obvious problems. The ELDK offers out-of-the box solutions for a wider range of target architectures. For a longer description of how Yocto and ELDK are related to each other, and why things are as they are, please see the documentation at http://www.denx.de/wiki/view/ELDKHistory > Is it right that the ElDK is a special layer (BSP) of Yocto? A layer on top of Yocto yes, but I would not call it a "BSP" (Board Support Package), as the ELDK tries to _not_ be so board specific as this is the case with Yocto; instead we try to support whole families of target systems. Hope this helps.
