I think it depends on when you got the shield upgrade kit for the KPA100. Mine had no speaker shield. However, later versions of the kit had the shield that fits over the KPA100 speaker. I never saw much discussion here on the speaker shield being added to the kit and haven't noticed any side effects of not having the shield.
