Hi

It depends. If you have an older K2 before s/n 3000 then you may improve things
with a new crystal set. There is also no advantage to having all 14 crystals
matched. The 7 in the CW filter need to match and the 7 on the SSB board need
to match but the CW and SSB do not need to match each other because the SSB and
CW crystals are not used at the same time. Many of the crystal sets before s/n
3000 were fine and no improvement will be had by changing them all out. It was
just some of the crystal sets were a little out in the early K2's and then the
new set of crystals will improve the band pass ripple and overall gain of the
radio. It is also more important to have the SSB crystals closer matched it you
are setting up the SSB board for 2.5 KHz bandpass. So if you have an older SSB
module and want to upgrade to the 2.5 KHz bandpass then you may want to change
the crystals. The caps are easier to change when the crystals are removed first.

Is this the time to consider the 14 matched xtals?

I bought a set at the time I installed my SSB unit (which was well after
the basic K2 was built). I still haven't traded out the original xtals for
the new ones in the K2, but once I do they will match the SSB's xtals.
