IMHO, it is unlikely that the tip has become magnetized...If that were possible, it would become magnetized by the magnet inside the heater that is the operational heart of this soldering station...I think it is more likely that the magnetic plunger, which activates the temperature switch, has become stuck, or that the return spring has broken...This can easily be checked by removing the tip while the iron is cold and pushing on the plunger up inside the heater with a small screw driver...It should easily move up about 1/2 inch and spring back down when the pressure is released...
