Well, YMMV ... but I'm sort of with Ron. I like to know what's going on around me, and if I want to really dig in and pull someone out of the noise, I know I can do it (well, sometimes!). I retired from communications engineering, and I accept all the theory for channels subjected to noise and possible throughput as a result, but we're not "Point-To-Point" folks. I'm not totally sure that it applies to the operation of a ham radio station.
