I rushed to the radio for the second net after having a much too leisurely dinner. Four minutes late and the antenna needed tuning! The dual dipole was tuned now call QRL ? and get going. Nobody is using the frequency, good, we're are ready to rock and roll. CQ about ten times. Hmmm... how much power am I running? 100 watts not like when I started the 20 meter net at 20 watts :( Ok, am I really on the air? Call CQ and watch the power supply needles bounce. Tuner's needles are bouncing too. What's up here? OK, tune off frequency, tune up the trusty G5RV and see if the Left Coasters are awake. Call one CQ and there is Dick, honorary Left Coaster in CO. We chat, I mea culpa, he laughs and tells me he will hang around to QSP for me. I call a few more CQs on the G5RV and ask Dick to call. No luck for either of us. So I go back to the dual dipole 40/17 antenna and call. No luck. So I proceed to retune on the G5RV. Finally some luck: Dick with N9IV and I hear K5GUS. We work them and then I call again only to land a KX1 in AK. A bit of work but it was fun to hang out with Dick and see what would happen. Thank you Mr. W0NTA for the company on 40 meters.
