Thanks, Wayne. I tried your suggestion and it sure did seem to work
that way fine. I also had done a few measurements around K16 & K17 to
make sure they were switching according to the displayed annunciator and
they were, so that put my mind at ease prior to trying your suggestion
which was lots easier than my effort of probing. However it was fun to
follow the schematic, do a bit of probing, note the results, change
states and note new results.
Thanks for the quick response!

Hi Mark,
This is all fine. I believe I set the default for preamp to ON for 40
meters and up. The reason your changed preamp state isn't being saved
is that this is one of the parameters that is not immediately updated
in EEPROM; instead, its update is deferred until certain events take
place, such as a band change.
To test this theory, change the preamp state, then change bands,
*then* turn power off and back on, and return to the original band.
Your selected state should now have been updated.
The reason we do it this way is to eliminate the need for a backup
battery in the basic K2. Instead, many setup changes trigger a
30-second "backup timer" (I described this somewhere in the manual).
Whenever the firmware sees that you haven't made any changes for 30
seconds, i.e. that the timer has counted down to 0, it updates
everything in EEPROM, including the VFO A and B frequencies, etc.,
then turns the timer off until you make another control change.

Okay, here is my first post to the group during assembly/test. This
seems minor and may not really be a problem, just want to make sure.
During the checks the first time the unit is powered up I get an
annunciator for "PRE". It was not specified as such in the manual.
The "PRE/ATTN" button seems to work as it cycles relays and the
annunciator moves from "PRE" to "ATT" to "blank" and then back to
"PRE" again. I haven't yet tested to see if the correct relay is
actually powered or not for each setting, however. I also see that
if I turn the radio off it comes back on at whatever frequency I had
last left it, however if I also set the "PRE/ATT" to "blank" when I
power cycle it comes back on with "PRE". Is this normal or is it a
minor bug I need to troubleshoot?
