My friend down in Georgia sent me a photo of his PRC-2000, That is a fairly
current mil spec
1-30mhz synthesised man pack. IT HAS A SPECIAL 9 FOOT WHIP, WITH AN
AUTOMATIC ANTENNA TUNER. THEY WARN IN THE MANUAL NO DIPOLES, AND DO DONT
GROUND?
Hmmm what gives with that?
Hope to have my K2 in a recent issue pRC-117. I simply cannot imagine
walking around with a 9 foot SKYHOOK out of my backpack!!! Actually that is
the
fixed position antenna.:) The other end one attaches a string to the insulator
at the end of this fishing rod like antenna.
What is a decent antenna for the K2? I should have my tuner soon. Got 7
amps of lithium ion batt. Made the packs out of laptop batteries. Full charge
in 2hr.
I guess there really is no great antenna for walking about. I was
thinking of using a telescoping antenna from a old 5W CB walkie talkie. Base
load
it with a 10 feet of wire air core of 1/2 inch diameter PVC.
If there is a decent commercial product, I am not adverse to paying for a
QRP antenna.
Seems like most role their own.
