Hi Mike, I have the Autek RF-1 and it is a reasonable tool. Small and easy to carry around, but a bit touchy with settings and readings.
I've also built the micro908. It was a learning experience as it was my first try at a SMD kit (it really wasn't that bad, if you're patient). There have been a number of modifications to the kit (included as part of the base cost) The software has been improved, added to and expanded. It's an open platform. I've been really impressed with it. It also can double as a VFO, DSP unit and work digital modes. The sad part is that the second round of kits has sold out. There may be a third round with all the improvements incorporated. One of the nice things about the micro908 is the ability to scan a frequency range and find resonance. The data can be output and charted on a PC or Palm Pilot. Impedance with sign is shown on the display, also the frequency, SWR and battery power. The Palstar is missing some of the options and is more expensive. It probably does not have the same level of support and user created functions as the micro908. Check out the kits at AMQRP.ORG. Good luck, Julius n2wn _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
