Thought I would share this... came across some nice LCD display modules (voltage, temp, elapsed time, etc.) while looking for something to add to my A&A UC3906 Charger for charge monitoring.
You can get big LED displays modules on eBay for $10, and these are certainly not cheap, but they are small, low profile, low current (3ma) and the voltage display only requires two wires, and best of all the mounting is done through only one small hole. I was able to easily add one to the front of my charger despite the tight clearances with the internal transformer: http://www.marteltesttools.com/products.php?cat=113&action=detail&id=69 With FD coming up, if you wanted a small display for battery or solar monitoring, etc, these seem to work very well.
