Hi Elecrafters
My K3 has # 615 (shipped September 2008) and is equipped with the KPA3 and the KRX3 (ordered at the same time as the K3 and shipped march 2009) I decided, some months ago, to install a KBPF3 module (in the subreceiver) and the KXV3 and to make various upgrades : - The two K3 AF modifications - The KIO3 remote I/O module swap I haven't yet implemented the parts corresponding to two other upgrades (synthesizer and 12 V sense) The K3 disassembling process was a bit painful for me, since I found it difficult to remove some boards. Removing the main I/O board, I lost C11 and destroyed its traces and, having removed the KRX3, I found the L2 choke of the Sub-in board on my ESD mat. My experience curve has improved drastically and this won't happen again ! I bought a new I/O main module from Elecraft, resoldered the lost L2 choke on the sub-in board and performed the various installations and modifications. After reassembling, unfortunately, the subreceiver was not working anymore. I attacked the problem again in July. I made some tests and discovered that my subreceiver is working if the signal is coming from the BNC antenna input but not when the antenna input is shared between the two receivers. I connected my XG2 module and obtained S4 with a 1 µV signal and S9 + 5 dB with a 50 µV signal (ATU by-passed, AGC and ATT off and PRE on), the same results as for the main receiver on antenna 1. My understanding is that it means a problem with the sub-in module, where the antenna split circuitry is located. Before opening my K3 (yes I'll take care !), I wanted to get some suggestions from the k3 community to better identify the problem.
