Phil, the IF buffer mod increases the gain of the IF output buffer –inside the K3- by changing a resistor value. What matters is the serial number of the K3, not the P3. Check the Elecraft website K3 mods and enhancements page for details on the resistor swap, and approximate serial number break-in.
