Ron,

You need a new headphone jack.  We don't hear too much about failures 
with the K1, but it is not uncommon for the K2.  The switch that closes 
the path to the speaker jack is a switch isolated from the contacts in 
the assembly, and it operates from a plastic lever inside the jack.  
Sometimes that lever breaks, leaving you with no speaker audio (or 
occasionally speaker audio all the time).
Elecraft has tried (unsuccessfully) to get the manufacturer to beef up 
that little lever, but so far, to no avail.
