Yes, PLEASE optional. Particularly on anything other than a tuning knob. Once I get used to how far a tuning knob moves frequency on a rotation, I often do moves on these kind of things by counting fast finger twirls without ever looking at it. Ballistic tuning would always force me to always watch while tuning.
