Rick, Did you set the K3 S-meter (as instructed) with the preamp on, and then turn it off? Or did you turn on S-MTR ABS after calibrating it? Either situation will produce exactly what you describe.
You CAN calibrate the S-meter with the Preamp off even if the manual says to turn the preamp on.
