I have not detected birdies in the K3, but have not used it a 28-MHz so far. Until I have a VHF transverter I will not be able to examine this very well, but I will be using 28-MHz as an IF for both 144 and 1296 MHz.
But is the stiffener standard on radios after spring-2010? My K3 is #4043. I can see that additional ground plane surrounding the synth may reduce susceptibility to birdies internally generated in the K3. ------------------------------ Message: 42 Date: Mon, 6 Sep 2010 21:19:08 -0700 From: Wayne Burdick <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Synthesizer Stiffener Plate Mod To: Guy Olinger K2AV <[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Exactly. 73 Wayne N6KR On Sep 6, 2010, at 8:28 PM, Guy Olinger K2AV wrote: > I think there may be a bit of extra shielding with the plate on the > front of the board.
