Originally they recommended a low-residue solder with, I think, 3% silver. This does an excellent job and makes beautiful shiny connections! The downside is that it is somewhat harder to clean out a hole if you need to remove components -- for example, if you accidentally install a wrong one, or to make a modification. So they switched to recommending a tin-lead solder.
Personally, I built my K2 with the silver-bearing solder and I haven't been sorry. It's no. 709 so I've made quite a few mods! I mostly use solder wick to clean the holes, although I have a spring-loaded plunger tool which is sometimes helpful.
