I own an Omni-VII but am also an Elecraft fan. The O7 is a superb radio that is certainly well-suited for DX as well as contests, but I think that most diehard contesters will tell you that the K3 wins the race for the best rig for contesting. I'm not ashamed to say that they're probably right. That being said, my O7 was our club's CW station at field day this year, and it did a great job.
The bottom line: I don't think you can go wrong with either rig, but if you're a serious contester and have the choice up front, it's probably wise to go with the K3.
