In the interim, one contributor gave some quantitative info about the noise measured between CW elements when running full QSK with the RF gain control set appropriately. If the noise between elements is rising above the level you had set with the gain control, that seems to be a malfunction. Is it maybe the case that some other rigs actually suppress the gain a bit between QSK elements, and are therefore perceived as having quieter QSK?
