I was able to try the new APF firmware last night. It is very dramatic, and I find it helpful in extremely weak signal situations. It's great to have this available at the push of a button. I would not use it every situation, nor would I tune around the band with it because the ringing in the background without a signal present sounds like very weak high speed code to me-- I find this distracting.
I find myself switching to the "fine" frequency resolution (1 Hz steps) when using the APF, to tune across the nose of a signal to get it just right. My K3 has only a single receiver, but I have three CW filters: 400, 250, and 200 Hz. I do find myself accidently switching filters by tapping the button instead of holding it to get APF, but that has no drastic effect on the signal I'm trying to copy. Indeed with APF engaged I don't notice much difference when I switch in different XFIL's. That's probably because I rarely use anything wider than 350 or 400 Hz DSP selectivity. This is a real worthwhile improvement for CW operators! 73, Chuck Guenther NI0C K2-10 s/n 5853 K3-100 s/n 1061 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
