I hand-carried #1827 in a Pelical 1510 from SEA to VP5 a couple of years ago, and to PJ6 last month, with nary a hassle. Passed right through the Xray machine mostly without comment - only once did anyone want to have a closer look. The 1510 is a max-legal size case, with only room for 1/4" of foam on each side of the radio, once I removed the handle and the feet. The front and back had lots of room for a p/s, headset, paddles. I would have used my new Rose case, but the last leg of the trip was in a Twin Otter, and I had to surrender the case to the baggage dept (at the airplane). If you can carry the K3 with you all the time, Rose is the way to go.
