One point not mentioned earlier is that there's a difference between "temperature control," where the tip contains a sensor and soldering stations advertised as "variable temperature." The better stations contain a tip temperature sensor. It's easy to be deceived in purchasing the wrong type of station based on unusually low price and the wording used in an ad.
