For the first year or so after assembly my main tuning knob just made a very faint noise that was smooth and consistent. However, beginning around last Field Day, the knob has tended to stick in certain spots, accompanied by much louder noise. This happens only when I press on the knob, as is always my habit. (I use one finger on the edge of the know rather than using the dimple.) I just took the knob off. The felt washer looked normal. After I put the knob back on, it behaved in the same way. My theory is that some grains of dirt have found their way into the felt. I guess it is time to replace the felt washer with the second one that came with the kit, or ditch the friction altogether.
