Lew, no doubt you'll get a lot of good advice from other hams here and elsewhere. However, there is no source for vertical antenna info that can compare with John DeVoldere's book "Low Band DXing." Highest possible recommendation. That, plus a copy of EZNEC, and you too can be an antenna guru.
BTW I heard John (ON4UN) on today with his K3, answering questions from his U.S. fans. Anyone who has questions about the radio's transmit audio would have no further doubts after hearing how a properly set-up K3 sounds.
