Rob, I have a DX Doubler with a pair of K-3s and experienced the same problem you have noted. The fix is to go to the Top Ten website and build the audio isolator for each radio that is described. I believe that it is shown as an addendum.
If you can't locate it, let me know. I built one and the hum disappeared. Parts are inexpensive.
