I suspect the answer is "it depends." I'm sure I could fit an equivalent volume 
inside my K3, but I don't have the ATU or the subreceiver or the 100 watt 
amplifier installed. Could you fit the pre-amp inside the K3 if all those 
options were installed?  I don't know, but if it were easy, I suspect that 
Elecraft would have done it. 

The proposed modification also would require I re-engineering the KXV-3 Receive 
Antenna/IF Out/Xverter interface module to allow an "internal" RF connection 
for the PR-6.  As to the difficulty and cost of doing so, I can't say for sure. 
My guess is that you'd have to enlarge the module PC board to accommodate a 
second set of RF connectors (whether BNC or SMA or ???) I presume it wouldn't 
be too difficult to provide an "internal" power source for the module.
