Hi Bob and Jim,
Thanks for info!
I forgot to read the errata page (ai ai ai)! No one to blame at Elecraft
but just myself.
This will clear up my "cloudy" mood (hi).
Thanks so far.

Hi Evert,
The answer is that you should not align the PLL on 160m. With the
later firmware is should only be done on 40m as instructed otherwise
the error message comes up. Elecraft should have deleted this info
long ago in the construction manual. Perhaps there is a errata sheet
included that you have missed? Not sure what came with mine, but I was
aware that PLL alignment on any other band apart from 40m should not
be done.
Likewise I had problems in getting the bandwidth on 160m. The advice
from Garry at Elecraft Support was to centre the alignment at a lower
frequency of 1880 or even 1850kHz in bad cases. Did the trick for me
though does require the use of a stable signal generator.

There should be an item in the addendum that says to not run the PLL
Linearization step. The early version of the firmware required the PLL
Lin on all bands but the newer firmware only requires it to be done on 7
MHz.
Look at the last item on the addendum sheet.
You can download the addendum sheet from the Elecraft site on the Manual
page.

PS: You are not the first to miss this item...
