If you are using the MH2 mic, make sure that the microphone bias setting 
is turned -on- in the main menu. (Main: Mic Sel;  tTapping '2' in this 
selection toggles mic bias on/off)
See Mic Gain / Bias on page 28 of the K3 owners manual.
