You don't need to do anything to send K3 commands with the P3 still
connected.  The P3 relays the K3 commands straight on through.  K3
Utility "thinks" it is connected directly to the K3.

You may be thinking of older versions of P3 firmware where you had to
turn off the P3 when downloading K3 firmware.  But that was fixed way
back in version 00.37 (September 2010).
