Rich,

I would try to analyze what is different about that particular KRC2.  
Cable placement, enclosure placement, antennas (or other devices) 
controlled, to see what is different.  Once that list is produced, maybe 
something will reveal itself as a probable cause.  Ferrites on the 
control lines may help if it is RFI induced, static reduction techniques 
(drain resistors on critical points) may help if it is static induced.

If neither of those conditions exist, I would review the soldering on 
that KRC2 with great care on the guess that an intermittent connection 
may be possible.
